For the Batak people, women are very glorified creatures. Therefore, they are not only respected and loved, but also fought for. Especially for those who want to marry her. It took more than effort to make a Batak woman his wife. One of them is through the Sinamot.

Sinamot is the price or money given by the man to the woman when she is about to carry out a marriage.
In Batak custom, sinamot must be given to the bride as a sign of buying or taking a daugther to be the groom's life companion.
Sinamot is always determined based on social status such as the level of education possessed by woman, the family economy of woman and men.
Where if the economic level of a woman's family is high, then a woman's family asking for a high number of Sinamot as well, because women's families do not want to be looked down upon by the Toba Batak community, in their environment where the number of Sinamot is always a measure of self - esteem for families, especially woman' families.
